Boxing in Bergen County News: Who was boxing’s greatest lightweight?

With the unprecendented 8 world titles in multiple weight division’s on Manny Pacquiao’s resume, many are calling him one of the greatest boxer’s pound for pound that ever lived. With Pac-Man’s accomplishments it’s easy to see why that argument could be made, but let’s not forget who almost unanimously holds that distinction amongst boxing old schooler’s. That man is none other than ‘Manos De Pierdas”, Hands of Stone-Roberto Duran. Here was a man that was virtually unbeatable as the world lightweight champion, and successfully made the jump to welterweight and beat the greatest welterweight of the time-Sugar Ray Leonard. Even after the infamous ‘No Mas’ in their rematch, the man went on to win world titles at welterweight, junior middleweight, and middleweight. His fight record at the time of retirment is a staggering 119 pro fights, 103 wins, 70 KO’s.

I came across one of the best highlight videos on Roberto Duran i’ve seen so you can see why he’s is consistently mentioned as one of the greatest boxer’s of all time:

Even with some of today’s great champions in the lower weight divisions, most boxing historians only give Boxing Hall of Famer Shoe-In Pacquiao a ghost of a chance against a prime Roberto Duran.
